Details
Cape Disappointment is a photo series that documents the hyperreal visual vernacular of the distinctive towns of the coastal northwest — places where historical, cultural, commercial, and domestic forces layer to create a confounding visual melange.
Shot over the last ten years, Cape Disappointment takes its name from a landform that acts as its tonal and geographical focus. The project focuses on the constructed landscape — the regions’ geology simulated in a molded plastic play structures; a giant fiberglass wave on a waveless beach; a crucifix painted on an oil tank and left to corrode in the salty air.
Edition of 300
48 Pages
41 Full Color Images
11.375” Wide x 15” High
90 GSM Bright White Newsprint
Screen Printed Resealable 6 mil Poly Bag
Please Note
In a gesture to the ephemerality of its subject matter, Cape Disappointment was printed using a newspaper process and non-archival paper. As as result, the pages will visibly fade if left in the sun and the screen printed sleeve was designed to act as a photographic negative — creating a permanent sun print of the title design on the front cover. Similarly, the newspaper printing process is inherently imperfect and has natural irregularities, inconsistencies and, occasionally, glitches. Each copy is a unique, imperfect, little disappointment.
